George is a Prinicipal of the firm and a member of the Board of Directors of Keystone Air & Drill Supply Co. (Keystone Drill Services / Stockdale Mine Supply). His primary responsibilities include the sourcing and evaluation of new acquisition candidates, the closing and financing of transactions, and the oversight of existing portfolio companies. George has been closely involved with all aspects of Harren's investments in Keystone Air & Drill Supply Co. (Keystone Drill Services / Stockdale Mine Supply), Smith Mountain Industries (Virginia Candle Company), Texas DAR Enterprises, and Virginia Explosives & Drilling Company (Virginia Drilling Company / Austin Sales).
George has gained valuable operating experience through his work with Harren portfolio companies. Following the unexpected death of the Company's president, George spent significant time on site at Virginia Explosives & Drilling Company. He helped to streamline administrative procedures and controls in anticipation of rapid growth, redesign the general ledger to accommodate improved financial and data reporting, and lead the recruiting process for a chief financial officer. At Virginia Candle Company, George spent time on site with management to develop a comprehensive strategic and operational assessment, provided execution support on strategic acquisitions, and assisted with operational initiatives such as inventory reduction, development of standard operating procedures and a system implementation. George also spent significant time on site at Texas DAR Enterprises in the absence of a chief financial officer. He worked to improve accounting department procedures and controls, and led the recruiting efforts for a new chief financial officer and a vice president of sales.
Prior to joining Harren in 2001, George started his career as a Financial Analyst in the Leveraged Finance / Financial Sponsors Group of Credit Suisse First Boston, a leading global investment bank in New York, where he participated in various advisory assignments and raised over $28 billion in capital for clients in a variety of industries.
George received a Bachelor of Science magna cum laude from the Williams School of Commerce at Washington and Lee University, where he was elected Beta Gamma Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa.
George is active in local and state political organizations and campaigns, and is an officer and executive committee member of the local unit of a major national political party. He has served as a strategic advisor and steering committee member for several campaigns. George is an active member and former officer of the Monticello Chapter of the AHEPA, an international philanthropic organization. He also volunteers as a career mentor at Washington and Lee University.
In his free time, George plays recreational ice hockey, is an avid sports fan, and sings. He and his wife enjoy spending time outdoors with their dogs.
